custom roms and my phone

നീ എന്തിനാ നിന്റെ ഫോൺ ഹാക്ക് ചെയ്തത്?

“why did you hack your own phone?” this was the question that i was asked again and again.

This question could be relevant if i used Ios (Iphone), which is a really locked down operating system. They refer to modifications to the system as “jailbreaking”, As the name suggests something unintentional to be done. In Android phones, however, tinkering with the system is completely normal. after-all you bought the device with your own penny.

You can install your own debloated android versions, aosp forks and even unix systems like Ubuntu touch or Mobian . What not? The steps to unlock bootloader and installing custom roms are documented in Android's own Documentation itself.

The reasons I use custom roms

I hate MIUI.. As someone who embrace FOSS Softwares, I cant withstand the bloatware loaded on miui. The most buggiest and laggy operating system I've ever used after windows vista. As a hardware vendor you may need to cut corners to make budget smartphones but using subpar softwares for premium phones is something not everyone can forgive..

oops google is in trouble

Just like in the above video, Privacy is achievable with free open source softwares. Though I'm not overly privacy conscious person apparently I own an Aadhaar card which itself is a privacy nightmare. Still you can limit the data you share with google and others. You can also change the bells and whistles of your OS— Change the theme, how the way it looks, get camera tweaks, audio mods. For those, you need The super user privileges in android or root access as it's commonly referred to.. I don't use “root” anyway. Android™ might be different for you... hacker's mask
