“Vinnie!”
The word crawled its way up my spine, and stuck to my skin like syrup. I forced a smile on my face and suppressed the immediate urge to shower.
“Benjamin,” I answered, matching his enthusiasm with polite coolness.
The man who was ready to greet me with wide open arms and a smile that could melt the ice on the moons of Uranus didn't seem to notice or care for my pointed distance. His dark skin wrinkled perfectly around the corners of his mouth, exposing a row of immaculate teeth.
Immaculate.
That was the word which best described just about every other spot of his body. From his neatly trimmed body hair to the honed athletic built, that was a product of a strict diet and regular workout, down to his subtly manicured nails, and the polish that accentuated the shine of his bespoke shoes. Nothing in Benny's appearance was left to chance.
There had been an albeit very brief time in my life where my heart would have jumped in excitement at the sight of those deep, blue and green eyes beaming at me. But I suppose having an embarrassing crush on the man who had kicked open the door to the world I had tried very hard to ignore for all my life was only natural.
My lack of experience in the matter had left me defenseless against the tailored flytrap of Benny's charm. Even after I had crawled out of it with my wings somewhat intact to get away, he kept on sending his sticky tendrils out to me. After all, you didn't break up with Benjamin Benton. He broke up with you.
But the worst part was that it worked.
The longer I'd let him tell me about the good old times that never were, the more entangled I would become in his web. Not even the fact that he called me Vinnie could then save me from finding myself in a dusty closet, kissing down those perfect pecs, and—
Oh. I definitely needed a shower now.
