🚗 How to commute
If you are not going to rent a car to travel around the Faroe Islands, your options include taxi and public transport, which include buses, ferries and even a helicopter! You can check all the details including available routes, timetables and prices here: https://www.ssl.fo/en. The local network of buses is excellent, and it's basically possible to travel around the whole territory. From the Airport to Tórshavn one can get by bus #300 (or also #350 sometimes) and it will take around an hour.
🏨 Where to stay
There are various options, which you can easily book via the service of your choice: from a room in a hotel like Hilton, to the whole house.
At Tórshavn we have been staying at Hilton Garden Inn and really enjoyed it there. Room are spacious and comfortable with teapot and a fridge. In the hotel there is a small shop to grab some quick snacks, drinks and souvenirs, as well as free laundry room, fitness room, and a sauna with a hot tub, which should be booked for an additional price (like 150 DKK per person). Of course there is a restaurant for breakfasts, lunches and diners as well as a complimentary glass of wine for Hilton Honor members every day from 5 to 6 pm :)

At Sørvágur we stayed at Cottages by the sea – lovely small 2-levels houses just on the ocean shore, which are super comfortable and well-equipped with a small kitchen and various amenities as well as provide an incredible view over the Fjord Sørvágsfjørður.

🍽️ What and where to eat
Faroe Islands is a great place to enjoy fresh and delicious seafood and fish! Starting from a locally produced salmon, which you can find in any supermarket, to Michelin-level restaurants with multi-dishes menu.
Some highlights include:
-Bitin – restaurant with Scandinavian cuisine, affordable prices and super cozy atmosphere. Beyond the variety of open Scandinavian sandwiches one can have fish and chips, shrimps, mashed potato with cod and some deserts.

-Cafe at OY Brewing – fish and ships or a chicken burger will be a great addition to a freshly brewed beer or cider.

-Sushi Daily – fresh tasty sushi, ramen, rice bowl and other things to eat in or take away – good quality with a good prices.

-Hallartún – a restaurant at the Hilton hotel, which serves delicious menu with affordable prices (hotel guests have 15% discount).

In supermarkets like Bonus, Á Handil or Miklagarður you can buy some ready to eat snacks and pastry as well as some food for breakfast – like fresh bread and smoked salmon – or to cook for a lunch/dinner yourself. Although it will be not always cheaper than to eat outside:

👀 What to do and what to see
Catch Northern Light if you travel in winter – it's not that easy as one can think. Even during the winter months, when the conditions are the most appropriate, you'll need a lot of luck. Be patient, have a good camera and use an app to help you to know about the sun activity. Good luck!

Drink some local beer – you can buy some at the dedicated liquor stores or visit one of 2 breweries (OY in Tórshavn or Föroya Bjór in Klaksvík), which is a great experience: you can chat with locals, play games and enjoy fresh drinks:

- Count sheep and/or waterfalls while you travel across the islands :)
Some other great activities, which we planned, but haven't managed to do this time include: visiting museums, traveling to remote islands with a ferry, moving around with a helicopter, going to spa etc. For inspiration, check this official website: https://visitfaroeislands.com/en/see-do.
💡 Some highlights
- Interesting fact is that eating in many restaurants is not more expensive than buying some ready to eat food in grocery stores.
- Pay attention that many places are closed not only on Sunday, but 3 days in a row: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday.
- If you want to buy some knitwear not spending a fortune, be sure to check second hand shops (especially Endurnýtsluhandilin á Bryggjubakka – Reyði Krossur).
- It's super convenient and really affordable (sometimes you may travel even free! For example, with city lines like 1,2,3,4 etc.) to travel around the Islands by bus.
- Be ready that the weather will change drastically multiple times a day: it may take like 5 minutes to change from blue sunny sky to stormy rain, so have a raincoat with you :)
