Other projects made with free software, decentralized and federated
In addition to the projects mentioned before, which have their own social network design, there are several other free software, decentralized and federated projects that also use the ActivityPub communication protocol. These projects propose online production and publication dedicated to specific media (videos, audios, texts) and/or constitute communities of people interested in a specific activity (such as movie, book and record reviews). The design and optimization of these softwares to meet these specific demands attracts users interested in them and often facilitates the formation of online communities, thus also functioning as social platforms. Let's take a look at some of these projects below.
WriteFreely – Blogging platform (This text you are reading uses the WriteFreely platform).
PeerTube – Focuses on video sharing
Funkwhale – Focuses on audio sharing (music, podcasts, etc.)
BookWyrm – Platform for socializing experiences with books (recording readings, conversations about books, writing comments and reviews).
neoDB – Platform for socializing experiences with books, films, records, games (recording ratings, comments, reviews and conversations about these cultural products).
Mobilizon – Platform for finding, creating and organizing events, with support for groups.
